How this room was sized

Everything is drawn to real size. Some numbers come from a tape or a spec sheet, the rest are read off the photos and can be off by a few inches.

Using the space

The room is about 10 by 11 feet with one low wall and two closets cut into the opposite roof. The two layout buttons show storage beds in the only spot a bed fits: along the window wall, head at the closet end, where the ceiling stays full height. The rest is where the storage can go.

• Bed with drawers instead of a bare platform. A captain's bed adds three deep drawers without hiding the window; the loft adds four plus a desk but covers the bottom 20 inches of glass.
• Low storage the length of the knee wall. The wall is 5 feet tall and 10 feet long; the desk uses most of it, and a row of low cubes or drawers under the roof beside the desk holds records and games where nothing tall would fit anyway.
• The curtained closet is 2 feet wide and 6 feet 8 tall and holds hanging clothes only. A second rod at half height, or shelves on one side, roughly doubles it.
• The guitar closet already works as the music store. Wall hangers for the two acoustics would clear its floor for the records and the purifier.
• Over the door and over the closet opening: a shelf on the header, like the Berserk ledge, is free storage in a room where floor space is the scarce thing.
• The hallway wall is the only tall wall with nothing in front of it. In the two storage-bed layouts the bookcase moves there, under the bear, so the window wall stays open for the bed.
• One fan and the AC eat floor. A window unit or a hose kit that mounts high would give that corner back.
